YouthBuild USA Mentoring 2020 Request for Proposal for Affiliated Programs

The YouthBuild USA Mentoring Team is happy to announce that YouthBuild USA is releasing a Request for Proposal (RFP) through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) FY 2019 Mentoring Opportunities for Youth Initiative Award. All YouthBuild Accredited, Full, and Provisional Affiliates are encouraged to apply. Both the funding and programmatic cycles will run from January 1 through December 31, 2020. Please fill out your program’s identifying information on the Google Form (links included below) based on whether you are applying as a starter mentoring program or a former funded mentoring program. Complete the RFP you wish to apply for and email your RFP/proposal application, with corresponding addendums and print out of the completed identifying information, to ybmrfp@youthbuild.org to arrive no later than the close of business, Thursday, October 31, 2019.

1. FY19 Cycle 1 Former OJJDP Funded RFP: For Former OJJDP Funded YouthBuild Affiliated Programs, the purpose of these pass-through subawards through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) FY 2019 Mentoring Opportunities for Youth Initiative Award, ranging from $45,000-$120,000, is to strengthen and enhance a solid mentoring component in your program, based on best practices, dedicated staff, and agency support, which will improve program outcomes and increase graduate success, prevent or reduce anti-social, delinquent, or destructive behavior, and reduce recidivism for those who have been court-involved. This subaward will also help with outreach and support of mentoring services for American Indian and Alaskan Native Youth, enhancement of law enforcement engagement by utilizing mentoring, and substance abuse prevention. The length of the mentoring program grant cycle is 12 months. 2 FY19 Cycle 1 Starter Mentoring Programs RFP: For YouthBuild Affiliated Starter Mentoring Programs, the purpose of this $24,000 capacity building pass-through subaward, through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) FY 2019 Mentoring Opportunities for Youth Initiative Award, is to plan and launch a solid mentoring component in your program. This subaward will also help with outreach and support of mentoring services for American Indian and Alaskan Native Youth, enhancement of law enforcement engagement by utilizing mentoring, and substance abuse prevention. The intent of mentoring in this context is to provide YouthBuild participants with support and guidance during the program year, but especially in the critical transition period after graduation. Through the OJJDP Mentoring Opportunities for Youth Initiative Award, YouthBuild USA will expand access to mentoring for youth in YouthBuild programs new to formal mentoring that will develop a formal evidence-based mentoring component. Selected Starter Mentoring subaward programs will receive the training, onsite and remote technical assistance, tools, and resources needed to establish a quality and durable mentoring component. The FY19 Cycle 1 Starter and Former Funded Mentoring RFPs will also be available via the “News and Updates” section on the CoP. Make sure to fill out the Google Form for the corresponding RFP for which you are submitting a proposal application, as it will not be considered complete until the form is submitted. Print and include a copy of this completed corresponding form (prior to submission) as an addendum to your proposal application.

2019 - 2020 Mentoring RFP Timeline

  • Sept. 26, 2019: RFP/Application Release
  • Oct. 31, 2019: RFP/Application Due
  • Nov. 22, 2019: Announcements made on subaward recipients and subaward agreements sent out
  • Dec. 16, 2019: Signed subaward agreements and award acceptance due
  • Jan. 1, 2020: Subaward funding for Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2020 cycle begins
  • Jan. 28- 31, 2020: Mentoring Coordinators from funded programs are invited to attend the YouthBuild Track Days Jan. 28-29 and National Mentoring Summit in Washington, D.C. Jan. 30-31. More information will follow if awarded.
